XCLUSIVE!

This week in Xclusive! Two great upcoming events in October, celebrating Greek history and the arts.

It’s All Greek To Me!
This weekend check out a celebration of contemporary Greek culture and a cutting-edge, creative response to the Greek crisis. ‘Greece Is The Word’ is a day long festival offering a diverse, informative and entertaining programme of events taking place on Saturday 19th October at London’s Southbank Centre.

The day’s programme opens with ‘Greek Fictions’ at 2.30pm; highlights include discussions on Helen of Troy and the relevance of ancient Greeks to us today and guest spots from an array of Greece’s biggest literary stars; Ioanna Karystiani, Alexis Stamatis and Katerina Iliopoulou to name a few. Best selling novelist Victoria Hislop (author of ‘The Island’ and ‘The Thread’) will also be there. At 5.30pm BBC correspondent and Greece aficionado Paul Mason will chair a provocative debate entitled ‘Media Myths’. Along with his panel of guests he will discuss: “the truth about the Greek 'meltdown'; media myths and manipulation in a crisis; the role alternative media play when mainstream media stop functioning, and, what happens next for Greece?”  And to top off the festival, at 8pm it’s time to let you’re hair down for ‘Katerina’s Krisis Kabaret’. Greece's funniest, most famous female stand - up comic Katerina Vrana will take to the stage for a night of Greek comedy, theatre, music and literature, with special guests.
If you fancy a little Greek indulgence this autumn take advantage of a special ticket offer; book multiple events at the festival for a 15% - 20%. All events are in English. For more information visit the webpage: www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whatson/festivals-series/greece-is-the-word

A Journey Into The Greek Blues… Rembetika and Beyond
If you love your Greek Rembetika, this next music event is not to be missed! Fantastic singing duo Martha and Eve take a celebratory glimpse at the history of some of the legacy left by the Greek Blues in a special one night only concert at the Millfield Theatre (Silver Street, London N18). On Sunday 27th October, Martha and Eve will be performing alongside some incredible guests, including Peter Polycarpou, Pavlos Doukanaris and fellow BBC's (British Born Cypriots!). The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are priced at £12. A memorable musical evening in aid of the Leukaemia Cancer Society; this fundraising event will help raise essential funds for a vital charity. I am extremely excited to have been invited to perform and be part of this event and look forward to seeing you all there!

That’s all for now ~ Until next time… x Mwah
